Western Kentucky School of Nursing
This partnership with the student nurses and the Buddy House Adult Skills Class has given Down Syndrome of South Central Kentucky the opportunity to meet with approximately 80 future nurses a semester and provide them information and insight into individuals with Down syndrome and the experiences families have raising them from a prenatal diagnosis through the aging process. In return the student nurses work with our teens and adults on a variety of presentations including, nutrition, hygiene, fitness, and safety to name a few.
One WKU Student nurse’s reflection, “Today I learned that there is a lot of love in the world and most of it is concentrated at the Buddy House. The clients were so excited and happy for us to be there. It was truly an exhilarating experience.”
