Programs & Classes at the Buddy House

Virtual Programming

Due to COVID-19, we are offering virtual programming via Zoom. We are hoping to open back up to regular scheduling in August! Zoom options will continue to be offered for our families and individuals who may not be able to make it to some of our activities and events!

  • Dance Fitness via ZoomALL AGES – Monday mornings at 11:00 AM (we focus on movement and starting our mornings off being active!)
  • Skills Class via Zoom18 & up – Tuesday mornings at 11:00 AM (during this class we learn about different topics ranging from our 5 senses to historical landmarks in the USA!)
  • Book Club via Zoom 12 & up – Wednesday afternoons at 3:00 PM (we vote on a book & read a chapter each week and discuss)
  • Yoga via ZoomALL AGES – Thursday mornings at 11:00 AM (we focus on flexibility and breathing while following an integrated Yoga routine created by the WKU Physical Therapy Department)
  • ASL: Music & Me via ZoomALL AGES – Friday mornings at 11:00 AM (Buddy House member, Lucy, comes in and teaches us each week how to sign a song)
(18 and up)
  • * Adult Speech Class – Mondays & Wednesdays (this class is facilitated by students in WKU’s Communication Disorders Clinic) (The WKU Communications Dept. has done an amazing job integrating this into a virtual class until we are back in person)
  • * Adult Skills Class – Mondays & Wednesdays following the Adult Speech Class (this class focuses on a variety of social, academic, & functional skills to help the individual with Down syndrome become more independent while keeping their mind and bodies activity)
  • * Dance Fitness – Monday mornings from 9:30 – 10:30 AM
  • * Yoga – Wednesdays at 2:00 PM
  • Club 21 – Every third Friday of the month from 6:00 – 8:00 PM (this is a social activity where each month is a different form of entertainment or theme. Volunteers help with socializing, leading activities, serving in the kitchen, set up, and clean up)
(12-17 years)
  • * Club Tween – Every first Friday of the month from 6:00 – 7:30 PM (this is a social activity where every month is a different theme, such as Under the Sea, Hollywood Night, etc. There is always a snack or meal provided. Volunteers will be helping with socialization, leading, serving, and set up/clean up)
  • * Mini Camp – 3-hour day camp meers for 3 days in June or July (each year the camp has a different theme, safari, under the sea, wild west, etc. that also incorporates activities to promote and further develop academic, social, and physical skills. This camp depends on a large group of volunteers to help develop and implement the activities)

(6-11 years)
  • * Little Rascal’s Club Playgroup – Every first Saturday of the month from 11:15 – 1:00 PM (this is a social activity where each month we have a different theme or activity, such as a sensory playdate or a trip to Chaney’s Dairy Barn)
  • * Mini Camp – 3-hour day camp meers for 3 days in June or July (each year the camp has a different theme, safari, under the sea, wild west, etc. that also incorporates activities to promote and further develop academic, social, and physical skills. This camp depends on a large group of volunteers to help develop and implement the activities)
  • * Hop, Skip, & Jump Physical Therapydates to be announced (free physical therapy for 0 – 12 years old)

(0-5 years)
  • * I CAN! Kindergarten Readiness Program – Tuesdays & Thursdays from 1:00 – 3:30 PM (We received a grant from United Way for a Kindergarten Readiness class for ages 3 and 4 years old. This is a free class available for our individuals with Down syndrome to get prepped for their upcoming transition into Kindergarten) (Our Kindergarten Readiness teacher is still offering one-on-one Virtual Classes)
  • * My Buddies & Me Playgroup – Every first Saturday of the month from 9:30 – 11:00 AM (this is a social activity for children & parents where each month we have a different them or activity for the little ones to engage in)
  • * Hop, Skip, & Jump Physical Therapydates to be announced (free physical therapy for 0 – 12 years old)

* These classes/activities are currently paused for in-person due to COVID-19.
